What happened at the 5th Kalamata International Dance Competition?

Dance Challenge Kalamata

PRESS RELEASE

The 5th International Dance Festival & Competition “5th Kalamata Dance Cup 2023 – Beyond Limits” was held with great success on the weekend of November 4 & 5 at the “Tenda” in Kalamata. A multi-faceted Art, Sports & Culture event managed for another year to enchant the thousands of participants and visitors in a unique weekend escape in Kalamata, to reward the winners with hundreds of cups in various dance categories, but also to leave the best impressions on the visitors.

The multiple originals of the organizing body ‘Cultural Association of Kalamata Dance Challenge’, the Organizing Committee of the KDC and the organizer Nina Drakou in the 5th International Dance Cup (Group Overall Winner, Greek Solo Ranking, Team Match etc.), offered for another year of challenge and innovation in the Messinian capital. With 2,000 participating dancers judged by 40 International Judges per genre in over 500 short performances from more than 100 artistic bodies from 14 countries and 4 continents, in an atmosphere of glamor they turned Kalamata for another year into a ‘meeting center’ of the world now of the dance community, offering a fascinating diverse artistic spectacle with positive energy at the height but also with strong emotions, with Kalamata again this year giving its dynamic presence with many distinctions in various categories.

The audience was enchanted both on Saturday and on Sunday by the dance groups of People with Disabilities from various Associations of Greece that the 5th KDC Festival managed to unite, with the Messinia Disabled Association triumphantly opening the curtain at the Gala Ceremony in the cultural program of the festival with the project ‘Dance Challenge performance’.

For another year, the competition area was flooded by the amateur and professional dancers of dance and sports, who performed accompanied by the Municipal Philharmonic of Kalamata, giving everyone a fantastic spectacle in an atmosphere of noble rivalry with big names in the field, professional talented choreographers as well as stars of the television show biz. The evening ended triumphantly with the awards to the dance champions of the Kalamata Cup, where for the 1st time among the gifts distributed by our sponsors, cash prizes were awarded to the winners.

The amazing atmosphere in the specially designed area of the Municipal stadium ‘Tenda’ was upgraded, both with the recent changes by the Municipal authority and with the contribution of those involved in the festival, turning a sports center into the most beautiful venue for cultural events in Kalamata.

The Messinia Police Traffic Division, the Hellenic Rescue Team (Messiania branch) as well as the Insurance Association’s care of the entire event, ensured the smooth and safe conduct of the two-day event.

The folkloric dance group ‘Elima International’ from the Democratic Republic of the Congo impressed with their presence and represented Africa at our Festival, updating the transnational cooperation of Euro-African Exchange that had started last year with our Association.

The benefits of the Kalamata Dance Cup to the local community have been huge for yet another year, giving a huge financial boost to the difficult times that the local businesses of the city are going through, which is now clearly visible as they look forward to the Festival every early autumn.

«Vistit Kalamata to dance»! With this motto, the International Artistic Cooperation of our Association continues its activities, putting dance and Kalamata in the foreground. The date of the 6th KALAMATA DANCE CUP WORLD FESTIVAL will be announced soon.
